There`s been a lot of talk about hunting hogs with a .17 and my brother-in-law , him and his wife, all they use is the Ruger.204 for hog huntin ....i sit in the blind one afternoon with my bro law, we where wanting to get a nice little fat piggie for a bbq that weekend so here come the pigs right on time he takes his Ruger 204 top with ATN 6x night vision scope with a can on the end of the barrel and shoots one in the head at 70 yards and it drop like a rock but still kicking so he unloads one more round in the head ...shes done lets go get the truck!....Got the truck ,drove to the feeder... No Hog! and bad part about the .204 it dont leave a blood trail.....

He went the next night and got us a nice piggie with the same gun and his wife put it in the elect. smoker and it turned out great!....We never tried the .17 on hogs we manly use it for when the coons get out of hand and it does a fine job on them corn bandits..... I guess the bottom line is, Its all about shot placement, Or is it?

Oh yea, I have been watching vids on the Gamo pellet guns taking pigs, and the .17 is a tack driver but as you say, shot placement, I would not take a shot on a pig with the .17 unless its behind the ear and small to med size. There are people on U-Tube taking pics with the .17, you can see how it dose. That big boar I shot in the pic, was hit perfect in the heart with a good .243 round and it still ran 50Yards or so. My brother hit one 5 times with 30 06 before it died and yes the were not the best shots but thats alot of energy being delivered. Most will say pigs are one of the toughest things around and I would say I agree around here. My dear went down quicker. The 204 is a heck of a round too. I would have no second thought about a good shot with that. Shot a coon about 200 yard with a 204. The poor thing , well, there was a 2.5 ft mark where use to be with some bits here and there.

oh yea, Crappie should be good now, at least like you said till it gets warmer for others. Here at the lake, crappie are hot with stripers and cats. Brim ok, all else slow. So why wait man.

Rabbits. No I need to look into that. Thought just throwing on the smoker and see what happens.

I do a little hog and coyote hunting. Now days people want you to pay them to hunt them. I preffer helping farmers out getting rid of them for free. Either way it's a blast.

It is really a blast to hunt coyotes and bobcat. I use a .204 Ruger with horady rounds. Can hunt all year long. It is pretty amazing how coyotes kill several deer a year. Some research says in some locations such as thick brush the kill 30% of fawns. I generally call then in wack them that way. Pretty addictive once you get set up.....anything to help the deer population is my MOTO!

USMC........Good to have you with us!!!!!! I have not tried calling in yotes yet, sounds like a blast though!!
I am usually praying for one to stop on the sendero! but the coyotes at my bosses lease have been shot at
quite often, so they aint havin nothing to do with giving me a easy shot!..............Cull

Good call on them Yotes and info about hurting the deer population. Goes to show how we over look little things like that. They are a pred and a scav. Like Cull, I cant say I have dose any calling as I figures it would not get too lucky. Whats the secret?
