I haven't had much luck seeing any good looking deer around here in Foard Co. this year. I have been catching alot of young small racked bucks on camera though. I was wondering if no brow tines on a young buck is a sign of bad genetics or poor nutrition or just being young?

100% correct on number 1 and 2!!....I, on my lease up in Brady Tx. have a no cull kill rule for this year hunting season due to the Texas drought. we are on the Co. river and even our bucks are way way down in inches and i have three guys that dont know how to age deer.

I have seen three pointers and four pointers with no brow tines (2 1/2 yo deer) move up the ladder to 8 and 10 point deer....

The best tool we have today is the game cam... i keep all pics of deer and i have one spike on the dead list for this year.....
Everyone different but i like to take out three year old deer with no brow tines......

I agree with all three, but lean heavier on the nutrition this year.

I've seen bucks with monster bodies, but sub-par antlers for their age.

I think the drought this year is the final nail on some of the mature bucks I've seen that barely measure over 110". I've seen heavily managed leases this year that usually have impressive headgear that are just average this year.
