PostSubject: AXIS STILL!   Thu Nov 10, 2011 9:40 am

Taxis still hanging around the landowner says there about 7-10 around but we have only seen them by two`s

whitetail seem to scatter when they show up i dont think they get along very well....

Dont really know what to do here i want them on the lease but not wanting them to take over....

this is our 2nd year of having them around and not really sure when i should allow them to be harvest but i`m leaning on giving them one more year ....

What y`all think????

Hard to say as to when they need to be taken.. they are a bigger bodied animal than the white tails.

If you've got them on the place and you will be on the lease for longer, it's a good idea to let them reproduce. I don't think they will take over the place.

I've seen both Axis and Whitetail under the same feeder. I'd sure like to have one of their hides haning on the wall.

Another thing, I don't think I could get one in the truck by myself. I'd have to quarter it there on the spot.Very Happy

The thing about Axis that might be detramentel to the WTs is that axis not only eat the hard mast and browse that the WTs prefer.

When that is all gone they go to grazing like a cow.

So if you have plenty of natural food sources to handle both species then you will be OK.

If you are not sure a season or so of letting them go, should not hurt.

And like JR said eventually you will see them two species under the same feeder.

I see it all the time!!

Very cool!!...Thanks guys!...none of us on the lease have ever shot an axis or tasted one so i had to beat them off the trigger so they will let them multiply..I told them if they see a buck with 30" horns shoot!!...haha...so far we have only seen two yearling bucks....
